Why 'Appointment Only'?

Operating by appointment only allows for complete attention to each client as well as concentrated dedication to the procedure at hand. Whether that be a new piercing or jewelry changes for healed piercings; we'll make sure that you have properly sized and comfortable fitting jewelry. Sometimes, that is what can take a bit of extra time. This is especially important since, for health reasons, body jewelry returns are not accepted.

In order to operate in a clean and safe environment, time must be taken to properly clean and sanitize all areas between client appointments. Operating by appointment only allows time for this to be done correctly. It's also important to address any concerns or questions you may have as well as provide you with necessary information related to your visit.

A private studio is also a nice alternative for those that prefer a more relaxed, personal, and quiet environment for body piercings..

...Even For A Jewelry Purchase or Change?

A jewelry purchase, change, or removal may seem quick & easy. However, these often require extra time to ensure the size and style will be comfortable in the area where it will be worn. Body jewelry cannot be returned (that'd be pretty gross!) so we want to make sure it'll be a great fit for ya!

All Procedures Performed In A Clean, Regulated, And Routinely Disinfected Setting. Not large enough for all of your friends to come in and watch, but you can bring one with if ya like!

It's A Laid Back Place At CBA. Outside Of The Procedure Room, You'll Encounter A Good Amount Of Mixed Art, Old Pics, Oddities, Music Stuff, And Other Things That Might Make You Go 'Hmmm....'

A glimpse into the magic cases of all things shimmering, shiny and bright! All body jewelry materials and designs are guaranteed to be free of defects. This material is safe for anybody to wear!

Quality jewelry plays a crucial role in the healing of fresh piercings. Even in healed piercings, poor quality jewelry can cause issues. If you have jewelry sensitivities and struggle to find comfortable materials to wear in your piercings, then CBA has jewelry for you!

Composed of implant grade materials, such as titanium, niobium, or 18k-14k gold, all of our jewelry is absolutely safe for long-term wear in the body (bio-inert). Unlike costume/plated jewelry, which is made of materials specifically to be worn ON the body, our jewelry is safe for long-term wear IN the body.

Premium jewelry can cost a few more bucks than the 'costume jewelry' that may find at the mall, retail chains, or subpar piercing shops. Premium jewelry will last infinitely longer, your piercing will heal faster, your healed piercing will remain feeling awesome, and the polished shine of quality jewelry will last longer!

Jewelry is sold per piece and prices vary. Material, style, design, and gem orientation are all factors. Gold prices may vary. Basic titanium and niobium jewelry are typically priced in the range of $15-45 (ear jewelry) and $30-100 (body piercing jewelry).

For safety and health reasons, no Returns or Exchanges will be accepted for any Body Jewelry.

Greetings!!

My name is Chuck and I am the owner, operator, and piercer at CBA. I was born and raised in Fargo, ND, and have been piercing professionally in the area since 1999.

So, What lead to CBA, you ask? Buckle up, and I'll give you the 'hole' story... ayy-o!

In 1996: At 16 years old, I got my first tattoo at Sterling Rose in Fargo, ND. (Rest in peace Joy Mulvihill!) My love for Body Art had begun!

In 1998: By age 18, I was a regular at Sterling Rose; getting piercings, tattoos, scheduling tattoo appointments, buying jewelry, or just stopping in to say 'hello!'. I was there a lot!

In Fall 1998: While attending MSUM, I was playing in a few local bands and also working at a local restaurant.

Spring of '99: Sterling Rose offered an apprenticeship which I gladly accepted! Sterling Rose had a reputation of solid work and clean practice as well as involvement with the local health department in modifying and developing Body Art regulations. These elements were seminal in shaping my professional ethics. I was lucky to have landed such a gig! I continued to work there after completing my apprenticeship.

May 2002: I opened/co-owned another local shop called Dead 'RockStar' with my family. This was originally a piercing, tattoo, and alternative clothing store: Hot Topic hadn't opened yet, ha! My roll was to provide all piercing services, manage jewelry/inventory, as well as mentor apprentice piercers (this was really wild being that I had only been piercing for 3 years myself. I was still learning!).

2003: At this point, I began doing more community outreach in the way of Body Art presentations & interviews to medical professionals, public health representatives, and other groups & organizations that were looking for insight into the body art industry.

I worked with Cass County Public Health to review and revise county/state body art regulations as well as develop and integrate new regulations for piercing practices & procedures. We also worked out some regulations for events such as tattoo/piercing conventions, and other art expos that showcase body art and its surrounding culture.

2004: Branding: Branding is a form of "scarification" in which heat isused to create a scar in a specific and pre-determined design. I learned this practice from Fakir Musafar (A pioneer of modern body piercing and he's from Aberdeen, SD, just down the road! Neat!) I was the only licensed scarification artist in the state. I offered this service from 2004- 2014.

2007-APP: Association of Professional Piercers safepiercing.org In 2007, I became the 1st APP member in North Dakota! Pushing up the bar and going above and beyond the required safety requirements in order to keep my clients safe!

2014 Rough Rider: Fargo was due for a bigger Body Art Convention so I brought up my idea to a pal that puts on local events and the 'Rough Rider Expo' ('Rough Rider Ink & Iron') was born! A meeting of great tattoo artists, piercers, vendors, and entertainers. This event ran from 2014-2024 and became known as the 'Roughrider Ink & Iron'

Late 2019/Early 2020: I'd been piercing professionally for over two decades at this point. Though I have always appreciated my clients, and I enjoy piercing, there were brief periods of "burn out' over the years. Until this point, I was always able to bounceback pretty quick. However, in-shop tensions between owners were growing and I felt that it was time to try a different career path, so, I decided it was time to leave the body art industry and find something new.

March 17th, 2020- COVID: Covid hit and we closed the shop for a few weeks. During that time, I gave a lot of thought to what I wanted to do. I decided that I had to keep piercing because I really enjoy it and my clients have always been the best! Now, it was time to figure out what needed to change in order for me to keep doing it. My conclusion was that I needed to do my own thing and try my hand at running my own shop.

July 6th, 2020: Chuck's Body Art LLC is registered with MN. (CBA is born! ...now it needs a home.)

November 2020: The day before Thanksgiving, I received a call from my bank letting me know that my small business loan was accepted!! My time at Dead RockStar had come to an end.

May 6th, 2002 until November 19th, 2020 I had a good run there. Just a few months shy of 18 years.

CBA! December 4th, 2020: With shop keys in hand, the building was mine! I loaded up my truck with tools and some elbow grease and headed to my new shop. I've always had a DIY attitude when it comes to things I want to do. This was going to be a fun project!

February 12th, 2021: With any project, there will be unforeseen obstacles to overcome. CBA was no different but I am stubborn and resilient. I am proud to say that aside from help with a floor sink and my badass floor, I managed to do all the work myself. The shop and I were ready and CBA was opened to the public!

April 2025: I Joined the Association of Professional Piercers, again, as a Minnesota member.
